Through the centuries, the Christian faith has experienced many forms of manifestation- influenced by culture, tradition, hierarchy and politics. In the confusing time in which Gruber and Mohr lived, many traditional structures were dismantled. But the deep faith in family lived on.

The faith present in the song “Silent Night” derived special expression through the close friendship of Gruber and Mohr. It touches so many people- transcending religious, cultural and political boundaries. This faith is rooted in humility, joy, love and the desire for peace. It does not alienate or grant any claim to power. “Silent Night” is a song of peace.
